Gary celebrated his birthday with a cake provided by Joe.

• The Disciples lived in a community. Their lives were intertwined with the community. The community was more important than the individuals.
• The community revolved around the word of God. They cherished the text God provided in scripture.
• The disciples wanted to know what the Rabbi knows. They wanted to be like the Rabbi and some, some had a consuming passion to be like the Rabbi. How much do we want to be like Jesus?
• In the Jewish tradition, disciples had to ask if they could study under the Rabbi. Only a few were accepted. The disciples were called by Jesus, “Come, follow me.” Jesus chose ordinary fishermen, from the simple village of Cappadocia. These men hadn’t been chosen by the religious establishment.
